The Jim Henson Company is a company founded by The Muppets creator Jim Henson in 1958 as Muppets, Inc.
21-year-old Jim Henson launched Muppets, Inc. in 1958 with his future wife, Jane Ann Nebel. The company was eventually rechristened to Henson Associates, Inc.
Among the best-known shows by The Jim Henson Company include Fraggle Rock, The Muppet Show, and Sesame Street; on May 16, 1990, Jim Henson, aged 53, died suddenly.
On December 18, 1991, The Walt Disney Company signed an agreement for Jim Henson Productions to become a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, selling it in 1996 to German company EM.TV; eventually, the company was bought back by Brian Henson and his 4 siblings.
On February 16, 2004, The Jim Henson Company signed an agreement to transfer rights to The Muppets and all related characters to The Walt Disney Company, forming a wholly-owned subsidiary, The Muppets Studio, LLC
